GER 1544 - FREUD AND FREUDIANSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description Freud is one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century. His groundbreaking work on dreams, the Oedipus complex, and psychoanalytic method have profoundly changed our understanding of the psyche and social interaction. This course provides a basic survey of Freud's most important and often controversial writings/discoveries within their historical context and with regards to significant criticisms of his work. It includes a brief survey of various branches of psychoanalysis to develop after Freud, especially those of Lacan and Kristeva.
