ARTSC 1925 - ARCHIVAL SCHOLARS RESEARCH AWARDS (ASRA) SEMINAR

This course is for Archival Scholars Research Award (ASRA) recipients. A partnership between the Dietrich School's Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (OUR) and the University Library System (ULS), ASRA supports scholars conducting independently designed, faculty-mentored research, drawing upon content from the University Archives and Special Collections and other Distinctive Collections within the ULS. This content might include A/V material, manuscripts, music, rare books, and/or other material. At the beginning of the term, students complete a Learning Agreement form, supplied by OUR, with both an Academic Mentor from a Dietrich School department as well as a Library Mentor. Students spend 6-10 hours per week conducting research. Additionally, with ULS support, students co-curate a mini-Interactive Digital Wall exhibit; participate in the Archival Scholars in Conversation event, during which they discuss their research with the campus community; and they write a term-end reflection paper. Meetings consist of instructions on creating an exhibit, slow and close reading of archival materials, and planning for future research and professional development among other topics.
