ARABIC 1120 - VOICES OF DEFIANCE: THE REBEL IN ARABIC LITERATURE

This course is offered in Arabic, and it is the most advanced Arabic class we offer in the Arabic program. It is a capstone course that is required by the undergraduate Arabic major. This class examines the topic of defiance in various Arabic literary genres: articles, short stories and poems. Readings are focused on authentic texts and are in Modern Standard Arabic. Discussions of the readings will be in Educated Spoken Arabic. Students will be expected to submit approx 25 pages of writing in Arabic, in the form of a short story or an anthology of poetry that relates to the topic of class. The writing will be workshopped in class, and students will do revisions until it is time to submit their final work a tthe end of hte semester.
