This course is the continuation of first-year Chinese I. It is designed to enhance the Chinese proficiency in all the four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) of those who have finished one semester of CHIN class at the University of Pittsburgh or its equivalent. Students continue to develop the ability to communicate in Chinese through the consideration of essential culture themes, language functions, and authentic situation as they acquire the structures and lexicon to work with written language, conversation, and composition. By the end of the semester, students should be able to conduct simple, practical conversation, and to read and write short passages on a variety of everyday topics such as transportation, dinning, asking directions, lodging, travel, etc.
