IDM 2051 - INFECTION PREVENTION IN COMMUNITY SETTINGS

The goal of this course is to provide an in-depth examination of the problem, approaches, and interventions for controlling infectious diseases in community settings and post natural or man-made events with implication for the spread of infectious diseases. This course will prepare graduate students with knowledge and skills in responding, plan for potential infectious disease outbreaks to enhance preparedness for infectious diseases in a range of community settings. The course will also address the complex clinical, psychosocial, preventive, clinical treatment, community intervention, and policy issues confronting public health practitioners, health professionals, and policy makers. This is an interactive course that involves some didactic lectures with foundational content. The emphasis will focus on case based learning and interactive group activities utilizing current and previous domestic or world events involving infectious disease outbreaks. Lecturers with a variety of expertise and backgrounds will provide students with multifaceted perspectives on infectious disease prevention. The course will include lectures, writing assignment(s), and in-class discussions.
