AFRCNA 2405 - MENTAL HEALTH IN THE BLACK COMMUNITYMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course explores the mental health of Black individuals from an Afrocentric perspective and worldview. We will examine how historical, social, and political factors have influenced their mental health, with a particular focus on the transatlantic slave trade, systemic racism, and decolonization. Our analysis will draw on empirical research, literature, historical records, and multimedia. We will also explore the intersection of race, culture, and mental health, further examining the impact of gender role socialization, cultural resilience and resistance, communal support, and systemic racism on mental wellness within the Black community.
