This course focuses on theory and practice of career and vocational counseling. This course reviews culturally responsive models of career development theories and career counseling practices. Students learn to incorporate theory into career-specific and mental health counseling practice. Students will learn to conceptualize the interrelationships among and between work, socioeconomic standing, wellness, disability, trauma, relationships, and other life roles and factors. The course also emphasizes vocational issues including job placement, client-readiness, job development, job modification, and workplace culture and attitudes. Content includes applied practice analyzing transferable skills, functional assessments, and work-related supports for achieving and maintaining meaningful employment.
