COUN 2740 - CLINICAL APPLICATIONS IN COUNSELING

This course is designed to provide students with basic skills needed for 1) clinical interviewing for intake, assessment, and case conceptualization purposes, 2) application of an evidence-based counseling intervention: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and 3) an understanding of other contemporary cognitive and behavioral interventions. Throughout the semester, students will practice counseling skills in and outside of class. Practices outside of class will be recorded for self-, peer-, and instructor-evaluation. At the end of the semester, students will conduct a full CBT session with a standardized patient (SP). Student performance will be assessed to determine competency for entry-level practice and specific detail for remediation will be provided if needed.
