This course is intended to increase students' knowledge of medical and scientific terminology through the study of Latin and Greek roots (no prior knowledge of Latin or Ancient Greek required). Although majors in the sciences will directly benefit from the course, all students, regardless of their disciplines, will gain understanding of the English language and will increase their vocabulary and ability to figure out unknown words through the tools of etymology. In addition, we will periodically veer into the realm of Greek and Roman history, culture, and mythology - especially as it relates to the field of ancient science and health care.
