DMED 5801 - SINGLE TOOTH DENTAL IMPLANT SURGICAL PLACEMENTMinimum Credits: 2 Maximum Credits: 2 In this course, students will use foundational knowledge taught in Implantology I (5311) and Implantology II (5346) to effectively diagnose and treatment plan the surgical placement of a single tooth implant in ideal anatomical sites that do not require augmentative procedures. The student will interpret a cone beam CT scan of the edentulous site; plan and print a surgical guide for implant placement; virtually place the dental implant in computer software; physically place the dental implant in a CT-generated printed model of their specific patient; and finally, surgically place the dental implant in the patient, follow the patient's healing postoperatively. This course will include hands-on demonstrations and a weekly review of literature pertaining to dental implants. The course is a limited participation course of 4 students who will be paired for assisting in pre-clinical exercises and implant surgeries.
