This selective course is a coaching-based course to provide support as students explore career plans and identify preparatory steps. Coaching is a powerful tool to aid the career decision-making process utilizing tools and best practices from adult development, career counseling, and coaching. Coaching is partnering with student coachees in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The coaching process honors the student-coachee as the expert in their life. Coaching is different from mentoring and advising in that coaching utilizes powerful questions to elicit answers, perspectives, and strategies from the student-coachee. The course sessions are designed as group and peer coaching sessions and draw on the students' resourcefulness. The course consists of alternating group coaching sessions and peer support meetings. Group coaching sessions are designed to (1) help students discover, clarify, and align with their needs to achieve their goals, (2) encourage student/coachee self-discovery, (3) elicit student-generated solutions and strategies, and (4) offer support, encouragement, perspective, strategies to support students in achieving their desired results. Peer support meetings are designed to follow up on group coaching discussions and to facilitate input, feedback, and advice by peers.
