HPS 2360 - SOCIAL, CULTURAL, AND EVOLUTIONARY APPROACHES TO THE COGNITIVE SCIENCESMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Methodological individualism has been the predominant approach within the cognitive sciences. And while the importance of social, cultural, and evolutionary factors in the explanation of individual behavior has frequently been acknowledged, it is only recently that the degree to which these factors contribute to experimental results has begun to be systematically investigated. Topics to be covered in this course may include whether there are any cognitive universals, evidentiary gaps in evolutionary psychology, anti-individualism and approaches to group cognition, and other topics related to social, cultural, and evolutionary psychology and neuroscience.
