ECON 3430 - TOPICS IN LABOR AND HEALTH ECONOMICSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course will cover frontier applied work in labor and health economics with a particular focus on the economics of family, economic behavior related to children, child health and child economic and social well-being, and the economics of risky health behaviors. The first part of the course will be focused on the economics of family and children. The second part of the course will be focused on health capital emphasizing the long-run effects of health at birth, the economic models of determinants of health, and the economics of risky health behaviors. The course will cover a range of different methods from structural analysis of marriage markets and health investments to reduced-form analysis of policy interventions, and experimental work. We will also explore the recent use of machine learning methods in these domains. There will be data-intensive hands-on sessions devoted to the replication of some of the key studies in the literature.
