This second-year course series focuses on applying the principles learned in the first-year curriculum to the students' own clinical practice via the submission of compliance reports designed to help their assigned clinical teammates. Team leaders will use the reporting generated from the students in this course to facilitate clinical efficiency within the clinical partnerships. Students will also learn to navigate the electronic health record (EHR) and provide feedback to their clinical team. Students will assess the impact of key performance indicators and adherence to school compliance policies on clinical productivity metrics. Students will also complete three complete patient record audits of randomly selected patients assigned to their clinical practice team and 5 clinical practice team (CPT) reports due at specified times during the semester. In addition to learning the skills necessary to adequately interpret EHR data regarding their clinical teams, students will be exposed to a number of topics related to practice management. Noting these essential components of dental practice are multifaceted and stretch across a varied spectrum of domains, emphasis will include presenting topics from the following subjects: professional and ethical behavior and decision-making; legal and regulatory concepts; communication and behavioral management skills; customer service; models of healthcare delivery; leadership and office policy; and the dental record. Students must complete all mandated reporting and attend all scheduled team meetings to discuss their reporting with their clinical partners. Students will learn about various models of healthcare delivery and the legal, financial, and contractual obligations associated with each of those models.
