COUN 2736 - CRISIS COUNSELING, RISK MANAGEMENT AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESSMinimum Credits: 2 Maximum Credits: 2 The course provides guidelines and parameters for risk assessment and risk management of harm to self and/or others. Students will demonstrate proficiency in establishing risk assessment/management plans for clinical practice. Students examine research on crisis theory, resolution, and resilience. Students will learn the effects of crises, disasters, and other trauma-causing events on persons of all ages. The course examines diverse crisis situations and the assessment and treatment strategies used by counselors to assist individuals, groups, and organizations in managing and resolving crises. Students learn how people deal with crises, explore personal crisis experiences, and develop crisis intervention competency.
