HPS 2812 - NEWTONMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This seminar will consider the establishment of dynamical astronomy with the publication of Newton's principia in 1687. The development and significance of Newton's early thought will be analyzed in relation to his mature "system of the world". Some aspects of the work of Newton's principal predecessors--especially Descartes and Kepler--will also be considered.
