PSY 1226 - ANXIETY: THEORY & TREATMENTMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 We are living in an important moment in time for mental health. When there are legitimate reasons to be worried or anxious - global health crises, systemic injustice, political unrest - where and how do we draw a line between "normal anxiety" and anxiety disorder? When anxiety does become a problem, how do we figure out what might help? This seminar-style course invites students to learn about current research, theory, and evidence-based treatment in the area of anxiety and related forms of psychopathology. We will explore major issues at the heart of clinical psychology - theory, diagnosis, research, and treatment - using a contemporary, scientifically-minded lens. Weekly readings and discussion boards complement in-class activities, which are a combination of lecture, small group discussion, demonstrations, and live Q&A.
