ANTH 2553 - ARCHAEOLOGICAL CERAMICSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course is designed to provide you with a broad introduction to archaeological ceramics. We will cover a number of topics during the course so that you will be conversant in the archaeological literature on pottery and will have a greater understanding of the types of research problems that are most readily investigated through the analysis of archaeological ceramics. You will also gain experience in handbuilding pottery vessels so you have an understanding of pottery from the perspective of the potter and will know how the limitations and possibilities within this medium affect both the manufacture and processes used in creating pottery. We also discuss a variety of archaeological analyses of pottery. Readings drawn from archaeological, ethnoarchaeological, and material culture literature are an important component of this course.
