PS 1338 - POLITICS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIESMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course explores the question of why it is so hard for many under-developed countries to overcome persistent problems of poverty, bad governance, and civil conflict. We will explore the politics of under-development, looking at the role of geography, institutions, historical legacies of slavery and colonialism, corruption, natural resources, ethnic divisions, and international aid. The course will take us to virtually every part of the globe, from Africa to Latin America to Asia to Europe and the United States.
