PS 1587 - U.S. FOREIGN POLICY IN AFRICAMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course will focus on the increasing engagement of the United States in Africa from the late 19th century until the present. Using a case study approach, students will analyze American foreign policy in Africa and explore the varied effects of those policies. These case studies will include the political realities of decolonization, the cold war, and economic aid and the social and cultural ties of black Americans to Africa. The course will identify specific crises in American and African history as focal points for study, but will also provide a larger narrative about American involvement in both the colonial and post-colonial development of Africa.
