SOC 1119 - GLOBAL PERSPEVTIVES ON POPULAR CULTUREMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 In this course we will use sociological perspectives to examine the role of popular culture in everyday life, with special emphasis on the global influence of the mass media industry, the relationship between cultural consumption and culture identity, and the social significance of cultural globalization in the 21st century. Specific topics include the rise of Pokmon, franchising Sesame Street, localizing American and Japanese television drama, blurring boundaries between news and entertainment and other.
