COMMRC 1147 - THE RHETORIC OF SCIENCEMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 The course examines how scientists persuade and dissuade each other and broader publics in the creation and dissemination of knowledge. It addresses such topics as: rhetoric and the production of scientific findings, communication of scientific knowledge to various publics, persuasive influences on funding decisions, how the public might better understand or influence scientific processes, and the intersection of science and public policy. These will be studied in the context of major science-related controversies of the recent past.
