BUSACC 1242 - TAXES AND DECISION MAKING

The Taxes and Decision-Making course will help students in all areas of business to better understand the tax implications of business decisions. Students will learn basic tax planning strategies (e.g., timing, shifting, and conversion strategies), and how to compute the income tax liability for both individuals and entities. We examine deductions, revenues, and other types of income, and learn to classify and compute gains/losses from property dispositions. The course also focuses on the choice of entity for a business with an emphasis on tax minimization. Finally, students will gain a better understanding of differences between reported income for financial (US GAAP) and tax (IRS) purposes. Prerequisites: successful completion of Financial Accounting (BUSACC0030) and Managerial Accounting (BUSACC0040). (3 credits)
