GERON 2015 - DIGITAL INEQUALITY IN OLDER ADULTS

As the world population ages, older adults comprise a growing proportion of current and potential Internet users. Yet outdated attitudes about older adults prevent markets and institutions from seeing them as worthy and relevant consumers and citizens. This course will examine the state of research on Internet use among older adults including how social inequalities have both evolved and remain in relation to who goes online and what they do once connected. We will explore generational differences in the ways people use the Internet as well as examine the relationship between Internet use and well-being. The goal is for students both to gain exposure to this area of work and identify aspects of Internet use among older adults that warrant further inquiry.
