FMST 2520 - FILM COMEDYMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Since the earliest days of the cinema, film comedy has been one of the most profitable, prevalent and persistent genres-ranging from the primitive burlesques of Edison or Lumiere to the popular features of today. While comedy appeals to a viewer's sense of pleasure, it also addresses her intellect, for as Ousmane Sembene once said, comedy "makes people laugh but it also makes them think." That is precisely what we will do in this course: think through comedy. Here, it is interesting to note that, in 2010, the academic journal comic studies began publication.
