CSD 2603 - HUMAN GENETICS FOR HEARING AND SPEECH DISORDERSMinimum Credits: 2 Maximum Credits: 2 An examination of the mechanisms involved in producing genetic variation in humans and the medical/clinical aspects of genetic variation and disease. Students will learn genetics terminology, patterns of inheritance, DNA/RNA structure and transcription and translation, characteristics of major human syndromic and non-syndromic hearing loss and communication disorders. We will discuss the ethical, legal and social issues associated with our growing knowledge of human genetics and the potential for misuse.
