CHE 2017 - CHEMICAL ENERGY AND THE NATURE OF THE CHEMICAL BONDMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 An overview of energy transformations arising from chemical bonding in chemical catalysis, electrocatalysis, and combustion. Students will be introduced to qualitative quantum chemistry concepts: potential energy and kinetic energy operators, wave functions, electron correlation, and GVB diagrams for analysis of chemical bonds and molecular structures in energy transformations. Students are expected to have completed Undergraduate physical chemistry course on quantum mechanics or equivalent or have prior consent from the instructor.
