BIOENG 3602 - TMJ REGENERATION AND MECHANICSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 The primary educational goal of this course is to instruct students in the anatomy and physiology of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which serve as gold standards for tissue regeneration approaches. Students will be exposed to current diagnosis and treatments of temporomandibular joint diseases, and TMJ occlusion. Major emphasis will be given to understanding biomechanics of musculoskeletal systems and mechanical testing of tissues, in order to apply this knowledge to enhance the function of the TMJ through the design of better therapies. Furthermore, students will also be instructed in tissue engineering efforts to regenerate the tissues of the temporomandibular joint, such as the TMJ disc and mandibular condyle.
