IE 1201 - BIOMATERIALS AND BIOMANUFACTURINGMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 The purpose of this course is to provide students having a background in biomaterials and biomanufacturing with an opportunity to learn about the many modern aspect of biomaterials from basic science to clinical applications, across the formulations and chemistry of polymers, ceramics, metals and their use in various biomedical devices and implants, as well as their clinical performance and host responses. Students will also gain knowledge and experiences with designing and manufacturing biomedical devices through team projects. This one-semester, graduate course is intended for students majoring in the industrial engineering, or those who contemplating such a major (or minor). Students enrolled in the class should have an understanding of various biomaterials, and the ability to understand biological phenomena and manufacturing processes.
