ENGLIT 1000 - INTRO TO TRANSLATION STUDIESMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This class introduces students to translation studies, an emerging discipline critical to an understanding of world literature. The focus is on English versions of literary texts in other languages and the theory underlying the transformation. The course examines translation as a form of writing which possesses a complex relationship to an earlier text to which it is similar but not equivalent. Students will consider the ways in which talented translators render influential literary works. We grapple with the following questions: how do English translations of the same text differ and what is the result? How does one evaluate a translation?
