CHE 1532 - BIOSEPARATIONSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Bio separation processes are critical for purification of peptides and proteins, nucleic acids, vaccines and viral vectors, and a host of other biomolecules of interest in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. This course will focus on downstream bioprocessing for separation and purification of recombinant and natural proteins, DNA, and viruses including viral vectors for gene therapy applications. Ultrafiltration, tangential or cross flow systems, precipitation, and chromatography-based processes will be examined. Ion exchange and affinity chromatography will be discussed in detail. Application of genomic manipulation and proteomics for improvements in bio separation processes will also be covered.
