AFRCNA 1201 - GLOBAL DIASPORAS: CONTEMPORARY AFRICAN AND CARIBBEAN MIGRATIONMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 What do Akon and Rihanna have in common? They are both part of recent diasporas from Africa and the Caribbean. This course focuses on the issues and experiences of people of African descent in contemporary (20th and 21st centuries) migratory diasporas from both Africa and the Caribbean. The course draws on extensive literature on migration, transnationalism, racial and ethnic identity formation, health, and other topics to illuminate the causes for migration and the experiences that migrants have in different host countries. What experiences do migrants from Africa and the Caribbean share? How do their experiences differ? How do migrants define themselves in new host countries?
